Yes. Microneedling is safe. Needles may sound intimidating, but Microneedling is actually less invasive than many other cosmetic treatments. Fine, precision, micro-needles allow the MD pen to puncture deeply enough to achieve maximum benefit with minimal damage to the epidermis, or outer layer of skin. This avoids triggering the production of melanin that causes hyperpigmentation, making Microneedling safe on all skin types. Furthermore, because Microneedling does not damage or remove the top layer of skin, scarring and adverse side effects are unlikely.
Microneedling cost depends on the treatment area, the number of sessions in your treatment plan, and if you are receiving Microneedling as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments. Microneedling pain is minimal, and most patients report it to be a painless treatment, although individual experiences may vary. The MD pen uses very fine needles and topical anesthetic is applied before the treatment to further ensure your comfort. A clinical study, measuring patient tolerance of the Microneedling treatment reported, “the needling procedure was not particularly painful,” with the patient’s average pain rating being 1 out of 10.
